INDEPENDENT HEALTH AND BUFFALO BILLS HEALTH & WELLNESS CHALLENGE MOTIVATES WESTERN NEW YORKERS TO ACHIEVE HEALTHIER LIFESTYLES

The popular six week, community-wide initiative will run from October 9 through November 19;

One lucky participant will win a trip for two to Nashville, Tennessee

Orchard Park, N.Y. (October 2, 2017) – Independent Health and the Buffalo Bills encourage all Western New Yorkers to get up, get moving, and start living healthier by taking part in this fall’s “Health & Wellness Challenge.” The latest round of this highly-successful, community-wide program will take place from October 9 through November 19.

The Independent Health and Buffalo Bills Health & Wellness Challenge was designed as way to help motivate individuals to integrate physical activity and good nutrition into their daily lives by offering opportunities to win prizes. The first initiative kicked off in October 2014 and drew 2,300 participants. Since then, five more rounds of the Challenge have been held, with participation steadily increasing each round, bringing the total number of registrants to 19,091.

Those interested in joining the Health & Wellness Challenge for the first time can sign up at buffalobills.com/thechallenge. All registered participants will be able to attend Monday Night Fitness, a free boot camp class on the field at New Era Field every Monday evening throughout the six-week initiative.

Get healthy and be eligible to win prizes

By meeting daily goals and completing easy and fun healthy activities, participants in this fall’s Health & Wellness Challenge will earn points and be eligible to win a variety of great weekly prizes, as well as a grand prize trip for two to Nashville, Tennessee. The grand prize includes roundtrip airfare, hotel accommodations for three nights and a VIP experience at Black River Entertainment. 

In addition, participants who track their steps online or with a compatible fitness tracker will earn points to be entered in the weekly Steps Challenge prize drawing. Every 5,000 steps is an entry to win two tickets to the December 10th Bills game at New Era Field. 

How the Health & Wellness Challenge works

As part of the Health & Wellness Challenge, participants earn points by achieving three main daily goals:

  • 20 minutes of physical activity
  • Eat five servings of fruits and vegetables
  • Drink eight glasses of water

Participants can also complete one “extra points” challenge each day. As an added bonus, participants who refer their friends, family and co-workers can earn 10 extra points for each person who registers. Plus, new this Challenge, each participant who records at least 20 minutes of activity during the initiative will receive 25 additional points if a Community Goal of 1,000,000 fitness minutes is reached.

The number of points earned throughout the Health & Wellness Challenge will determine the number of chances participants have in the prize drawings. In addition to the grand prize trip to Nashville, five participants will be selected at random each week to receive a prize, including signed Bills memorabilia, Bose® wireless headphones, fitness trackers, gift cards and autographed Black River Entertainment merchandise.

Participants can keep track of their progress and learn about that day’s “extra points” challenge by logging-in at buffalobills.com/thechallenge. To be eligible to win a prize, participants must be at least 18 years of age and a legal resident of New York State at the time of entry.
