Last Call to claim $2.6 million in ‘Forgotten Funds’ 

Summary:
Hundreds of people in Western New York, and thousands across the state, have forgotten about $2.6 million in checks sent by Univera Healthcare and its parent. These checks were issued in 2011, but were never cashed. If the funds aren’t claimed by the end of August, Univera is required to turn the money over to New York State. More than 13,000 individuals and health care providers in New York state, including hundreds across Western New York, have forgotten about more than $2.6 million in checks sent by Univera Healthcare and its parent company. These checks were issued in 2011, but were never cashed. If the funds aren’t claimed by the end of August, Univera is required to turn the money over to the Comptroller of the State of New York.

“This is money our health plan paid for claims or refunded premiums.” said Art Wingerter, Univera Healthcare president. “It belongs to our members and providers and we want to make sure they have one last chance to claim it.”

The list of people and companies with checks to claim is online at UniveraHealthcare.com/forgottenfunds.  

Each April, New York state requires health insurers to compile a list of unclaimed checks that are at least three years old. The names are posted in public legal notices in a final attempt to find the individuals with money to claim. 

“Checks aren’t cashed for a number of reasons,” said Wingerter. “The member may have moved and not left a forwarding address, the member may have died, or the member may have misplaced the check.” 

To claim a “forgotten funds” prior to August 31:

All checks will be mailed to claimants after August 31st.
