No Bike? No Problem!

BlueCross BlueShield – Blue Bikes are at Canalside

No bike? No problem! BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York’s Blue Bikes are back this summer, with nearly 50 bikes at Canalside for individuals and families to rent hassle-free and explore downtown, Canalside and the Outer Harbor.

With summer officially underway and so much to do, here’s a guide with everything you need to know to explore Buffalo’s waterfront by bike:

What are Blue Bikes? Blue Bikes are rentable bicycles provided by BlueCross BlueShield. The bikes are available in three different sizes: adult, child, and – for those seeking a little more support and comfort – the fun-to-ride, full-sized trike. The bikes are also equipped with a basket for easy exploration. For riders under the age of 15, a helmet is required and provided.

Where can Blue Bikes be rented? Blue Bikes can be rented at Canalside on the Boardwalk, across from Liberty Hound.

When are Blue Bikes available? Blue Bikes are available daily from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.

How much do Blue Bikes cost? Hourly rental prices are: $10 for one hour, and $5 for every additional hour or $25 for the entire day. BlueCross BlueShield members receive an additional $5 off any rental by presenting their BlueCross BlueShield member ID.

Do you need a membership? No special membership, credit card or sign-up required! Just stop by the Boardwalk, rent a Blue Bike, and get on your way to a great day.

Is there anything new this year? New for 2017, free transportation on the Queen City Ferry to and from the Outer Harbor is included with every rental.

What should you do once you rent a Blue Bike? The opportunities for exploration are endless. Ride around Canalside or take the Queen City Ferry to the Outer Harbor. Pack a picnic lunch and check out one of the spots on the waterfront or downtown.

Cyclists are encouraged to share their experiences on social media using #BlueBikes.
