Independent Health and Buffalo RiverWorks Invite Western New Yorkers and Out-of-Town Visitors to a Free Fitness Program and Open House on Saturday, July 2

Discounts will also be available on water sports rental fees
WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. (June 29, 2016) – Western New Yorkers and out-of-town visitors are invited to a free fitness bootcamp and open house on Saturday, July 2 at Buffalo RiverWorks to help celebrate summer and kickoff the Fourth of July weekend. The celebration is part of a five-year health and wellness partnership between Independent Health and Buffalo RiverWorks announced last December.

The bootcamp, a 60-minute exercise class that mixes traditional callisthenic and body weight exercises with interval training and strength training, will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. The session is part of Independent Health’s popular Fitness in the Parks program, presented in partnership with the YMCA Buffalo Niagara, now in its fifth year. The session will be taught by YMCA-certified instructors.

Following the bootcamp, there will be an open house from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. featuring free pickle ball and backyard games.

Visitors are also invited to participate in a variety of outdoor, water-related activities including renting kayaks, paddleboards and water bikes, all of which are part of the new Water Extreme Zone at RiverWorks.

Independent Health members will receive a 50-percent discount on water sports rental fees and all others will receive a 25 percent discount during the open house.

“We are pleased to join forces with Buffalo RiverWorks to provide the public with a number of fun, health-related options to celebrate the Independence Day weekend and showcase of one of our region’s most dynamic new entertainment destinations, said Michael W. Cropp, M.D., president and CEO, Independent Health. “These events will also help participants burn off a few calories from the many picnics and family gatherings they have planned this weekend.”

In addition to joining forces with RiverWorks and partnering with the YMCA on Fitness in the Parks, Independent Health provides a number of other community programs and initiatives including the newly launched Reddy Bikeshare program in the city of Buffalo, the “Independent Health and Buffalo Bills Health & Wellness Challenge,” Healthy Options® at Food Truck Tuesdays, the Independent Health Family Branch YMCA, and GO Bike Buffalo.
