6th Park Golf Pay it Forward Open

OneChurch, in conjunction with Destroyer Park Golf, will be hosting the 6th Park Golf Pay it Forward Open on Saturday, September 21st from 3 pm – 7 pm at 7065 Sand Hill Road in Akron, NY. The event will benefit the Maras family of Grand Island who were involved in a tragic auto accident on their way home from Lake Placid in August. Kevin Maras lost his life and his wife Heather remains at the University of Vermont Medical Center recovering. The couple’s daughters Sierra (18), who was released from UVMC last week, and Ashley (16) are back home on Grand Island. The family was very active at OneChurch serving on the board of directors and leading youth and teen ministry programs.
Park golf is a variation of golf that includes using one club and a large ball on an 18-hole course. Golfing skills or equipment are not needed in order to enjoy the game, which is appropriate for people of all ages.
Registration for the event begins at 3 pm with golf starting at 4 pm. The cost is $25 and includes dinner and golf. Take-out dinners are also available from 4 pm – 7 pm for $12 with a menu including roast beef, pulled pork and a variety of sides and dessert. There will be a raffle with more than 100 baskets including large door prizes such as a family four-pack to Darien Lake Theme Park, a customized corn hole set and other prizes to be announced. Sponsorship packages in various amounts are available as well as monetary donations.

Destroyer Park Golf opened in 2013 and is the first park golf course in the United States. The game is a huge sensation in Japan, boasting over 1300 courses. Destroyer Park Golf is sanctioned by the Nihon (Japan) Park Golf Association. The park’s founder, the late Dick “The Destroyer” Beyer, played park golf for more than 10 years in Japan. Beyer is recognized as a wrestling champion world-wide, especially in Japan, and is known for his figure-four-leg-lock.
OneChurch has campuses in Akron and Medina with services every Sunday at 9 am and 10:30 am. The services include infant, child and teen programs as well as growth groups and special programs. The churches also serve as sites for community organizations to meet throughout the week.
