VA Western New York Healthcare System’s Minority Veterans Committee is leading the way, hosting its fourth Health Equity Conference, designed for community health care professionals at the Buffalo site of VA Western New York Healthcare System, 3495 Bailey Avenue, on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm, in Room 301, Freedom Hall.

Disparities in health care delivery and access may include factors of race, gender, age, economic status, geography, socio-economic status, mental health, cognitive/ sensory/physical disability and sexual orientation. For Veterans, an additional factor may include the military era from which a Veteran has served. Over the last eight years, the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) has led the charge to reduce inequities through VA leadership, awareness, outcomes, training, and data research.

Dr. Ernest Moy, MD, MPH, Executive Director of the Office of Health Equity, Department of Veterans Affairs Central Office, will be the keynote speaker presenting at this year’s conference at 10:30 am. His presentation will bring greater awareness about disparities in access and quality of care , particularly the application of electronic health records, machine learning, and systems science modeling to improve health care.
