New Facebook page provides easy access to hospital diversion program run by, and for, recipients of mental health services – Renewal Center

Peer-operated and peer-staffed with highly-trained personnel, The Renewal Center (TRC) has served its constituents at 327 Elm Street, South of Genesee Street, in Buffalo, NY 14203, daily from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, for nearly one and a half years.  It now provides an easy avenue to access developments from its own Facebook page.  You can use its Internet URL, www.facebook.com/RenewalCentr.

“Hospital diversion” means that individuals with mental health or substance abuse issues who are in distress may avoid the turmoil of a trip to the Emergency Room, as The Renewal Center has several services, offered in a home-like setting by highly trained staff who understand, as they have been there: they have been through their own crises!  The guests, who are in a crisis as they define it, need no medical referrals nor special requirements to access these services, which are provided at no charge and offered in a safe and secure facility that has free parking.

Inspired by similar programs in other states that employ “The Living Room” model, The Renewal Center’s mission is to provide a safe, supportive, non- judgmental environment that empowers those who are struggling with the principles of wellness and recovery. We serve individuals who are at least 18 years old and have a primary mental health or substance abuse condition, assuring them that they are not alone.

Among TRC’s Menu of Services, one can: Speak with a Registered Nursing Professional; Access linkages to Medical and Non-Medical Service; Be referred to Alternative Community Supports; Find Peer Support; and Employ Tools for Support & Maintaining Wellness.
