August often arrives with mixed emotions. The days are still warm and beautiful, yet we sense summer beginning to slip away. This year, that familiar feeling may be accompanied by uneasiness about events close to home and around the world.

We hear about the growing tick population, illnesses linked to contaminated produce, and Canadian wildfires that have affected our air quality. We see conflict and unrest abroad, while people in our own communities live with fear and uncertainty, including families worried about deportation and separation. It can all feel overwhelming.

While it is important to remain informed and take reasonable precautions, we cannot allow worry to steal the season—or the good that surrounds us. There are still long evenings to enjoy, festivals to attend, parks to explore, farmers’ markets to visit, and time to gather with people we love. And when summer ends, Western New York offers us crisp, colorful fall days perfect for walking, apple picking, scenic drives, and simply getting outside. Let’s savor what remains of summer while looking forward to the beauty ahead.

At Buffalo Healthy Living, we are also embracing some exciting changes. We have rebranded our television programming as WNY Health & Lifestyle Connection—A Multimedia Experience, reflecting our growing commitment to sharing useful, inspiring information across print, television, and digital platforms. We are also delighted to introduce our new Special Kids & Families Monthly Feature, highlighting healthcare providers, schools, programs, activities, and resources that help Western New York’s children and families thrive.

This month, I hope you will take care of yourself, stay aware without becoming consumed by worry, and make time for something joyful. Step outside. Call someone you love. Attend a community event. Explore somewhere new.

There is still so much summer—and life—to enjoy.
