Publisher’s Letter: Welcoming September
by Annette Pinder
September has always felt a little like a fresh start. The days are still warm, but evenings grow cooler, the air becomes crisper, and we begin thinking about changing leaves, school schedules, fall activities, and settling into new routines. There is something comforting about that rhythm.
Of course, this September arrives when many people are concerned about rising prices and unsettling events around the world. We cannot control everything happening around us, but we can pay attention to the things that help keep us grounded — our families, our communities, and our health.
Fall is also an important time to think about protecting ourselves and those we love from seasonal illness. Changing federal policies and conflicting messages about vaccines have understandably created confusion. However, guidance from the American Medical Association and American Academy of Pediatrics continues to emphasize the importance of evidence-based vaccination to protect children and adults from preventable diseases.
Because reliable information matters, two September episodes of WNY Health & Lifestyle Connection, our BHL television show, will focus on vaccines and immunization, helping viewers understand current recommendations and hear from trusted medical professionals.
We are also excited about our new monthly Kids & Families special feature, focusing on the health, development, education, activities, and everyday concerns of WNY families. And we want you to help shape it! What questions do you have? What topics would you like us to explore? Is there a local resource other families should know about? Send your ideas to info@buffalohealthyliving.com.
As summer gives way to fall, I hope we can all enjoy what September offers — cooler walks, beautiful changing landscapes, renewed routines, and opportunities to reconnect with what matters most. There will always be things to worry about. Thankfully, there are also so many things to look forward to.
Here’s to a healthy and hopeful September!
