BUFFALO, N.Y. — Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center’s sixth annual IceCycle fundraising event, presented by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and the West Herr Automotive Group, has come to a close. The event, which took place at Buffalo RiverWorks, raised $915,000 for cancer research and patient-care programs.
The more than 1,500 participants took part in their choice of nine 45-minute cycling sessions on the ice led by instructors from studios across Western New York. Studios participating in IceCycle included Catalyst, Hype, Rebel Ride, Revolution Buffalo, Rise Fitness Studio and Spark Fitness. There were also three theme rides to appeal to a wide audience.
- Returning: In Our Swiftie Era
- New: Glow Ride ft. Kodat’s MawshFit Experience
- New: Patient & Survivor Hope Ride (waived registration fee and fundraising minimum)
Participants each committed to raising at least $200 for the cause. Riders who took more than one session committed to raising at least $400. Many went far beyond those minimums, making this year’s IceCycle the most successful yet.
“At this event, we’re not only standing in solidarity with patients and survivors, but we’re truly paving the way for new treatments and programs for people facing a cancer diagnosis. That’s because of the incredible funds raised by our dedicated participants,” said Mackenzie Giancarlo, IceCycle Director. “Every year, we are moved by the passion, commitment and energy the Western New York community brings to this event.”
Participants were reminded of the mission in many ways throughout the weekend, including two Victory Bells on the ice, where patients and survivors were able to celebrate milestones in their cancer journeys.
More than 150 community members also took part in Fitness Off the Ice, which is a series of 30-minute exercise classes indoors at RiverWorks that also benefit Roswell Park.
“This was a record breaking IceCycle in two ways: number of participants and funds raised. I am so proud to be a part of this event that genuinely makes a difference for cancer patients.” said Bill Loecher, IceCycle Founder. “This event would not be possible without our amazing community partners, devoted volunteers and, of course, the studios and instructors who come back stronger each year. IceCycle is a testament to the impact we can make when we all come together for a good cause.”
Since its first event in 2021, the IceCycle community has raised more than $3.5 million for cancer research and patient care programs at Roswell Park.
