On Monday, April 8, 2024, Western New Yorkers can witness one of the rarest, and most spectacular events in nature — a total solar eclipse. During the partial phase, the moon will start covering the sun at 2:04 pm for about 70 minutes, and the landscape will be transformed by eerie dim light and strangely sharp shadows. The total eclipse is expected to begin at 3:15pm and last 3 minutes and 45 seconds. At this time, the sky darkens, and planets appear. After totality, the moon gradually uncovers the sun in a second partial phase, that ends at about 4:30 pm.

With their office location directly in the path of this monumental event, Fichte, Endl & Elmer Eyecare will be hosting a total eclipse party from 12-5 pm at 6500 Porter Road, Niagara Falls, New York 14303.

“We are so excited about the April 8th solar eclipse that we are throwing a party! Western New York is one of the lucky regions of the country to fall directly in the path of totality as the moon completely blocks out the sun for up to 3 minutes in the middle of the afternoon,” says Michael J. Endl, MD. He cautions, “If you’re going to look at the sun during the eclipse, you must be wearing safety approved eclipse glasses, otherwise you risk permanent injury to the retina of the eye.”

Attendees will receive free ISO approved safety glasses to view the eclipse, and enjoy live music, free hot dogs, and free parking. Llamas will be on hand for kids to pet. You can also check out some new cool designer frames and sunglasses at our optical shop. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair and/or blanket.
