Skilled Nursing Facilities listed among nation’s best.

BUFFALO, NY – Several of Elderwood’s skilled nursing facilities have recently been recognized in national media for excellence. Five Elderwood communities were named to the prestigious U.S. News & World Report “Best Nursing Homes” list for excellence in Long Term Care and Short-Term Rehabilitation.

The facilities recognized by U.S. News include:

  • Elderwood at Amherst recognized for Short-Term Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care
  • Elderwood at Cheektowaga recognized for Long-Term Care
  • Elderwood at Grand Island recognized for Long-Term Care
  • Elderwood of Scallop Shell at Wakefield recognized for Short-Term Rehabilitation
  • Elderwood of Wheatfield recognized for Short-Term Rehabilitation

“It is affirming to have the incredible care that our staff delivers every day recognized by such a well-respected publication like U.S. News and World Report and to have our commitment to excellence highlighted,” said Dr. Jeffrey Rubin, co-CEO for Elderwood.

Best Nursing Homes ratings are based on U.S. News’s in-depth analysis of publicly available data, including information that is not factored into CMS’s star ratings. Unlike the star ratings, the U.S. News ratings recognize that patients undergoing relatively short-term rehabilitation have very different needs from those who require longer-term care.

To be recognized as one of the 2022-2023 U.S. News Best Nursing Homes, a facility must have been rated “High Performing” in short-term rehabilitation, long-term care, or both. Only 16% of 15,000-plus-skilled nursing facilities in the U.S. meet that standard.

The Short-Term ratings are based on an assessment of 10 quality measures, using data from the federal government’s Care Compare program. Those measures include staffing levels, medical outcomes, and resident complaints.

Similarly, the Long-Term ratings are based on an assessment carried out by U.S. News of nine quality measures, including staffing, medical outcomes, resident complaints, vaccinations, and appropriate use of medications.
