Independent Health is “Bringing Healthy to You” this Summer with Healthy and Free Programming Across Western New York

As Western New York welcomes the summer season, Independent Health is once again “Bringing Healthy to You” with a variety of fun and health-focused programs across the region.

In conjunction with local partners, Independent Health is offering a robust schedule of events and activities in June, including:

Fitness in the Parks
June 1 through August 31
Various locations across WNY

Independent Health and the YMCA are once again offering more than 500 free fitness classes at 25 park locations across WNY. All classes are led by certified YMCA instructors. All ages and skill levels are encouraged to participate. 

Kids Run
Saturday, June 3, 9:30 a.m.
Delaware Park

Bring the family for a 1.8-mile walk or run around Delaware Park. The annual Independent Health Foundation’s Kids Run event is free for all ages, with a mini dash for children ages 2-5. Special guests include DJ Milk, Amor y Heritage Dance, and Nickel City Reptiles and Exotics. Advance registration is required.

Larkinville Day of Fitness
Saturday, June 3, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Larkin Square

Whether you like pickleball, Zumba, yoga, or running, there’s something for everyone at this free Day of Fitness, setting the tone for a healthy and active summer for the whole family.

Food Truck Tuesdays
June 6 – August 29th (Tuesdays)
Larkin Square

Food, fun, and free live music return on Tuesday evenings to Larkin Square as Independent Health presents Food Truck Tuesdays. More than a dozen food trucks visit each week for this unique outdoor dining experience with each offering at least one Healthy Options menu item that is lower in fat, sodium, and cholesterol thanks to the Independent Health Foundation. Special giveaways include the chance to win Buffalo Bills tickets.

Start-Up the Summer
Saturday, June 10
Wilkeson Pointe

Celebrate the start of summer at Outer Harbor Buffalo with giveaways, free outdoor fitness classes, and discounted bike and watersport rentals. Walk, jog, or bike the Independent Health Wellness Trail which connects Wilkeson Pointe and Lakeside Bike Park.

Community Health Day
Monday, June 19, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Buffalo Museum of Science

Health and wellness meet science on this fun, interactive day that celebrates community. Enjoy free admission to the Buffalo Museum of Science. Events include outdoor fitness classes, a storybook reading for children about Juneteenth, and a health and wellness scavenger hunt.
