Kenmore Mercy Hospital’s Medical Rehabilitation Unit (MRU) has been awarded a three-year reaccreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), recognizing the unit’s continued commitment to delivering high-quality inpatient rehabilitation services.

In addition to this reaccreditation, the MRU achieved its first-ever CARF Accreditation for its Stroke Specialty Program. With this achievement, Kenmore Mercy Hospital is the only CARF Accredited Stroke Specialty Program in Western New York, underscoring its leadership in specialized stroke rehabilitation.

“Our MRU team demonstrated to the surveyors their commitment to offering medical rehabilitation services that are measurable, accountable, and of the highest quality,” said Kevin Gibson, Director of Rehabilitation Services for Catholic Health. “We are especially proud to be recognized for our Stroke Specialty Program. This achievement reflects the dedication, expertise and collaboration of the entire team.”

A three-year accreditation is the highest level awarded by CARF and follows an intensive peer-review process. CARF surveyors conducted an on-site evaluation that included interviews with associates, patients, and families; direct observation of care practices; documentation review; and identification of opportunities for continued growth. From there, CARF delivered its decision with Kenmore Mercy receiving a three-year accreditation.

CARF is an independent, nonprofit accrediting body whose mission is to promote quality, value, and optimal outcomes in rehabilitation through a structured accreditation process and continuous performance improvement.
