Since 1994, Explore & More The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Children’s Museum has been the local leader in play-based education, a place where families flock daily for unique, fun experiences that enrich their worlds and create lasting memories.

Dr. Stuart Brown, the founder of the National Institute of Play in California, once wrote, “A force that helps us discover our most essential selves and expand our world, we are designed to find fulfillment and creative growth through play.” At the heart of Explore & More’s mission is exactly that—the belief that play is essential to healthy brain development in children.

Explore & More’s brand-new facility at Canalside in Buffalo, which opened in 2019, is the ideal place to learn about the region’s roots as an innovative port at the turn of the century and to use hands-on play to spark the imagination of the next generation of great minds.

Michelle Urbanczyk, the president and CEO of Explore & More, believes that free play is more important than ever. “We embrace play and are always seeking creative ways to ensure every child can experience what we offer,” she said. “Play is for everyone, and that belief drives everything we do.”

The museum has won numerous awards over the past few years, including the No. 5 spot on USA Today’s 10Best list of Best Children’s Museums in 2026. Explore & More has also been recognized for its work with people with disabilities, including its valued employees.

Throughout the year, Explore & More offers camps, classes, rental spaces for birthday parties and other gatherings, professional development opportunities, outreach initiatives, sensory-friendly events, nights just for grown-ups… and more (of course), proving that play is truly for everyone.
