The Center for Elder Law and Justice (CELJ) works daily to help improve the lives of older, disabled, and low-income adults by providing them with free legal services that help them live independently, and with dignity.
CELJ is now pleased to announce a new financial management program in conjunction with Lifespan of Rochester that links volunteers with adults over age 60 who need help with budgeting, bill paying, managing debt, and other financial services. Volunteers meet with their assigned clients approximately once per month in their homes to review mail and bills, discuss budgeting concerns, and link clients with appropriate community resources. CELJ attorneys are also available to those who may need legal advice.
The goal of the program is to help bolster the economic security of older adults, and assistance provided can be the difference needed to an individual to remain living at home independently in the community. Another program goal is to help prevent scams and abuse, and connect individuals with other community resources that promote financial empowerment.
CELJ has locations in Buffalo, Dunkirk, Lockport, and Olean, and their free Senior Legal Advice Helpline also assists older adults statewide. Any New Yorker age 55+ can call CELJ’s Free Legal Advice Helpline to speak with an attorney Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 11:00am.
