And just like that – September has arrived. School begins, life’s pace quickens, and the air suddenly fills different. Nature’s subtle changes remind us, especially on cooler days, to appreciate the warmer ones, which all too soon, will be few and far between.
September is a month filled with preparations, from shopping for school supplies, to make-ahead school lunches and easy dinners, to winterizing homes, purchasing firewood, canning or freezing fruits and vegetables, or planting bulbs for spring.
While fall is a beautiful time of year, it is always sad to leave summer behind and prepare mentally for the winter months. Still, we look forward to autumn’s majestic hues of oranges, golds, and reds, the scent of cinnamon, pumpkin and spice, cool crisp air, and the crunch of leaves beneath our feet.
As the external changes we experience in fall inspire us to look inward to reflect on our priorities, it is also a good time to think about the events of the past year. What can we do better? How can we improve ourselves and the world? How can we bridge the gaps that seem to divide us? What changes can we make to invest in our health and the health of our community? Is there someone to whom we should apologize? Or is there someone we should forgive?
Thank you for engaging with Buffalo Healthy Living in print, online, on television, at community events, and through our social media channels as we focus on and highlight life’s changes, challenges, medical breakthroughs, and more.
Have a wonderful September, and don’t forget to get your new flu and COVID shots!
