When 87-year-old Sam Sansone and 83-year-old Diane Sansone, decided to make a joint appointment to undergo cataract surgery on Valentine’s Day after 63 years of marriage, we knew we had to share their story.

Accompanied by their daughter Lisa Sansone, an attorney practicing in Baltimore MD, the procedure was performed by Dr. Michael J. Endl of Fichte, Endl & Elmer Eyecare, at the Ambulatory Surgery Center of Niagara. “Mom grew up in Niagara Falls, and dad, a lifelong resident of Lockport, worked as an attorney. Dad was very involved with urban renewal projects and was appointed as Commissioner of the Niagara Falls and U.S. Canadian border bridges by Governor Mario Cuomo. Meanwhile, Mom owned Telesto Production, Inc., producing many films for PBS locally,” says Lisa. In all, they had four children, and still own several rental units in Lockport.

“My parents are such a lovely and generous couple, and it is a joy to be around them. I’m fortunate to still have them in my life. I come to town as often as I can, and cherish every moment I have with them,” says Lisa.

“It’s always wonderful to change lives through the gift of sight, but it’s an extra special treat to deliver that gift on Valentine ’s Day to a couple that has been together for over six decades! I’m honored they chose and trusted me with their eyes,” says Dr. Endl.

To help them celebrate, Dr. Endl presented the Sansones a bouquet of roses, a heart-shaped box of chocolates, and a gift certificate to the Fieldstone Restaurant in Lockport.
