There is light at the end of the Covid-19 tunnel
But we still have to get through the tunnel
By Dan Gabbay

The Covid-19 vaccine has been developed and approved at an unprecedented pace, in less than a year, and is now being distributed across the country. However, successfully getting the vaccine to hundreds of millions of Americans is a massive undertaking, which may not be completed until spring, at the earliest.

In other words, the vaccine is coming — but exactly when, where, and for whom is not clear. In the meantime, it is absolutely essential that we don’t let our guard down. At Buffalo Center and Ellicott Center here in Buffalo, strict protocols remain in place. Social distancing is practiced, face coverings, eye shields, and PPE are required, and frequent hand washing and disinfecting of common areas continues. The first priority is protecting staff, residents, and patients.

The following protocols have also been instituted: If the facility has no active or suspected cases of Covid-19, rehab gyms are open, and a total of 10 residents are allowed in for treatment as long as they can remain at least six feet apart. If the facility has an active or suspected case of Covid-19, all gyms are closed, and in-room one-on-one treatment sessions are provided.

Distributing vaccines is a complex logistical feat. Keeping people safe and getting them home faster is a simple response that works. The light at the end of the tunnel is in view. Let’s get there together.
