Expanding Pediatric Orthopaedic & Joint Preservation Care in WNY

BUFFALO, NY — UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine is pleased to welcome fellowship-trained pediatric orthopaedic surgeon Kevin T. Schauer, MD, to its growing team of orthopaedic specialists. Dr. Schauer specializes in pediatric orthopaedics, pediatric sports medicine, and hip preservation and arthroscopy, further expanding access to specialized care for children and adolescents throughout Western New York and the surrounding region.

Dr. Schauer’s clinical practice focuses on joint preservation, with particular expertise in infantile hip dysplasia, adolescent hip preservation and pediatric and adolescent sports medicine. His approach centers on helping young patients return to the activities and sports they enjoy while preserving the long-term biomechanics and function of the joint. His surgical expertise includes cartilage restoration, ligament reconstruction and osteotomies.

In addition to his focus on hip preservation and sports medicine, Dr. Schauer provides pediatric orthopaedic trauma care, drawing on extensive trauma training during both his orthopaedic surgery residency and pediatric orthopaedic fellowship.

A Long Island native, Dr. Schauer completed his undergraduate studies at SUNY Geneseo, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology with Summa Cum Laude honors. He earned his medical degree from the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo, also graduating with Summa Cum Laude honors. He then completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University at Buffalo before pursuing fellowship training in pediatric orthopaedics at Children’s Hospital Colorado near Denver.

In addition to his clinical role, Dr. Schauer will be helping to train the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo. To date, he has published and presented research focused on pediatric fracture management, as well as hip and developmental disorders.
