Many people believe chiropractic care is just about “cracking backs.” However, one specialized method, the Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT), employs a much more detailed and gentle approach, emphasizing the connection between the sacrum—the triangular bone at the base of the spine—and the occiput—the base of the skull. Developed in the 1920s by Major Bertrand DeJarnette, SOT is based on the idea that proper alignment of these two structures is essential for supporting the nervous system and overall body function.

Since the spine protects the spinal cord, even minor structural imbalances can impact posture, movement, and communication within the body. Instead of relying solely on traditional high-velocity adjustments, SOT allows me to work in a precise, low-force manner that promotes the body’s natural corrective processes.

A key feature of this technique is the use of specially designed wedge-shaped blocks placed under the pelvis while the patient lies comfortably on their back. These blocks use gravity and the body’s own weight to help restore alignment without forceful manipulation. Depending on each person’s needs, I may also include gentle cranial techniques or soft tissue work to support balance throughout the body.

I often use SOT to treat lower back pain, neck tension, headaches, jaw issues, and certain pelvic imbalances. Because of its gentle approach, it is also suitable for pregnant women, children, and people who prefer a more subtle form of care.

Every patient is unique, and treatment is always tailored to the individual. My goal is to help restore structural balance in a way that feels safe, supportive, and effective.
