D’Youville University has announced that 285 Delaware Avenue in downtown Buffalo is the planned location for its proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine, pending pre-accreditation approval. Just over a mile from D’Youville’s main campus, the site was intentionally chosen to ensure that the college stays in the city center, near healthcare partners and easily accessible to the community.

The building will be developed in partnership with Uniland Development and demonstrates the university’s dedication to investing in Buffalo’s future healthcare infrastructure.

“We’re incredibly proud to take this next step in establishing what we expect will soon become D’Youville’s College of Osteopathic Medicine,” said Dr. Lorrie Clemo, President of D’Youville University. “Bringing a medical school to Buffalo aligns with our mission to transform healthcare education in ways that are community-focused, equitable, and rooted in the neighborhoods we serve.”

D’Youville is currently going through the pre-accreditation process with the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) and expects to share updates later this summer. If approved, the college plans to admit its first class in Fall 2026, reaching 720 students by its sixth year.

The announcement comes amid a growing need for primary care physicians. The Association of American Medical Colleges projects a shortage of up to 48,000 primary care doctors by 2034, with more than 27,000 retirements expected in New York State alone.

The College of Osteopathic Medicine will further enhance D’Youville’s reputation as a regional leader in doctoral education. It builds on a strong foundation of advanced programs in healthcare, education, and leadership — boosting the university’s impact on Buffalo’s workforce and the communities it serves.
