The morning keynote will focus on promoting resilience and well-being of diverse students in schools. School personnel will learn ways to create an educational context that embraces the needs of racially and culturally diverse students, enhances belonging, and engages students. Attendees will learn practical strategies for activating culturally grounded protective factors that can unlock the potential of historically disadvantaged students. Research results on effective strategies for culturally responsive school engagement will also be presented. The first afternoon panel will address “Perspectives on DEI in Schools and Community” and panel members will include: Dr. Darren Brown-Hall (Superintendent of Williamsville Central School District), Dr. Lura Lunkenheimer (President & CEO of Peaceful Schools), Chantele Thompson (Chief Diversity Officer for the City of Buffalo), and Dr. Tonja Williams, (Superintendent of Buffalo City School District). A second afternoon panel will feature student voices from the Youth Alliance for Education.
