Gabby Gambino, Varsity Soccer Player at St. Mary’s High
School, named Highmark Community Hero for December 19th game

Buffalo, N.Y. – Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York and the Buffalo Bills today announced the Highmark Community Hero for the December 19th game versus the Carolina Panthers.

Gabby Gambino, a senior varsity soccer player from St. Mary’s High School, will be honored during Sunday’s game as the Highmark Community Hero.

The theme for Sunday’s game is NFL PLAY 60, the league’s national youth health and wellness campaign that encourages kids to get physically active for at least 60 minutes a day. The mission of NFL PLAY 60 is to empower youth to be the most physically active and healthy they can be.

Gabby is a stand-out soccer player who has been playing soccer since she was three years old. Overcoming several injuries over the past few years, Gabby has committed to play soccer at Clemson University in 2022. Gabby’s commitment to her sport is inspiring to children everywhere and the true epitome of the NFL’s PLAY 60 mission.

Highmark BCBSWNY and the Bills honor a Community Hero during each home game in the 2021 Regular Season, and Ms. Gambino is the seventh recipient of the Highmark Community Hero award this year. Each Community Hero receives $2,500 toward a non-profit of their choosing from Highmark BCBSWNY, as well as a commemorative game ball (co-branded Highmark and Bills).

Gabby has selected the Breast Cancer Network of WNY to receive the $2,500 donation in honor of her grandmother who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. The Breast Cancer Network of WNY supports, educates, and advocates for individuals with breast cancer, breast cancer survivors and family and friend co-survivors. The organization is dedicated to ending breast cancer and the deaths it causes.
