Network in Aging
Here for the Community
By Pamela Pace

When the pandemic initially began and many organizations shuttered their doors and interrupted their services, the non-profit Network in Aging (NIA) knew that continuing to meet, plan, and assist was necessary, even in uncharted waters. “We immediately decided to make all of our meetings virtual,” stated Angie Crawshaw, president of the NIA. “We knew we had to be there for our more than100 members, who represent thousands in Western New York’s aging community, who needed us now more than ever.”

Staying true to its mission, NIA successfully launched several new initiatives, including an online public resource/business directory of local member agencies, a members-only forum enabling ongoing virtual communication with one another, and Laura’s Garden, a memorial page dedicated to members no longer with us. Finally, to honor and recognize those going above and beyond, the Unsung Heroes campaign was launched, highlighting dedicated individuals in action serving the community.

With November as National Home Care Month, we are now focusing on the importance of remaining positive and focused on all areas of our lives that affect our physical, mental, social, spiritual, and financial health, even during a pandemic. We also look forward to attracting new members and sharing advice on staying healthy and active, and achieving one’s dreams and aspirations.
