Cultivating a positive mindset is a common topic. I think about the benefits of positive thinking
all the time. After all, positive thinking always makes me feel better. So, why is it hard to maintain consistently? Why is there always that one person who responds to what you think is a great idea with skepticism? And why do we allow their skepticism or that tiny voice of self- doubt to influence us?

We live in a world in which positive thinking often goes against the flow of how the world seems to operate, at a time when there are plenty of things to worry or complain about. To compound the problem, we often set expectations of others based on our own perspectives of caring and friendship.

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that expecting someone to demonstrate their concern for me in ways I expect them to only leads to disappointment. I’ve also learned that there are far greater rewards that come with treating others how I would like to be treated. In other words, it’s great to be you no matter what.

The rewards of positive thinking and actions are immense. Positive thinking increases your empathy and understanding of others, helps you feel gratitude for the good things in your life, and is even good for your heart, according to a recent Johns Hopkins study. It also provides you with perspective when you’re feeling down, knowing that this too, shall pass.

This holiday season I wish everyone health, happiness, peace, and the joy of positive thinking.
