Western New York’s largest independently owned radiology group is the sole medical imaging practice to earn a place on this year’s regional list

HAMBURG, NY | March 17, 2022 – Southtowns Radiology was recently named as a finalist to the 2022 Buffalo Business First Best Places to Work list. The list is developed solely based on the results of an annual employee engagement survey, which is administered by Quantum Workplace. Questions measure employee satisfaction in the categories of communication, employee needs, manager effectiveness, personal engagement, team dynamics and trust in leadership.

“We could not be more proud to be named as a finalist to this year’s Best Places to Work list,” said Paul Pizzella, MD, president of Southtowns Radiology. “As a practice we are centered on a culture of caring for people – not just our patients, but also our team of employees. Knowing that our staff enjoys coming to work everyday and that they feel valued and supported by one another – especially during the past two years of fluctuating circumstances in healthcare – it just goes to show what an amazing team we have across our imaging centers.”

Based on the results of the survey, Southtowns Radiology was described by its employees as genuine, collaborative, welcome, adaptive and friendly. Employee comments included:

  • It’s been a very positive working environment from the top down. Doctors are wonderful to work alongside and value our opinions as technologists.
  • Everyone works as a team here and helps each other out. Management is very understanding and flexible. I have never worked somewhere where everyone has your back.
  • This has been a great place to work since day one. I have never thoroughly enjoyed a job or my work so much. Employees from different departments stop in to say hi and check in. It’s such a positive team environment that I’m proud to be a part of.

Studies show that highly engaged medical staff members correlate to increased overall patient experience ratings in healthcare, a benchmark Southtowns Radiology routinely measures as part of their patient-centered approach to care.

“We believe we offer a superior experience for patients and it’s our team of employees that drive the level of service we provide,” stated Pizzella, who became president of the group two years ago. “We try to listen to suggestions for improvement, and make changes that are meaningful. One of the things we like best about this survey is the opportunity for employees to weigh in on what they think is going well, and offer suggestions for where to go next.”

Southtowns Radiology was founded in 1959 and operates two outpatient medical imaging centers in Hamburg and Orchard Park. The practice currently employs approximately 76 full-time equivalent (FTE) staff including board-certified radiologists, licensed radiologic technologists, medical receptionists and schedulers, patient service coordinators and administrative support.

This year’s list of Best Places to Work from Buffalo Business First included 75 finalists from across the eight counties of Western New York. Southtowns Radiology was the sole medical imaging provider to be named to the list.
