BUFFALO, N.Y. — Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is proud to announce that Department of Immunology researcher Kathleen Kokolus, PhD, has been named an Irish Echo “40 Under 40” awardee.

The Irish Echo is a New York City-based newspaper and considered the oldest Irish American publication of its kind. Every year, the public nominates individuals who have “established themselves in their respective fields of work.” Dr. Kokolus accepted her award during a ceremony in late February.
Dr. Kokolus joined the Roswell Park staff in 2018 and has a strong interest in researching immunotherapy as well as the interplay between stress, immune systems and cancer. As an Assistant Professor of Oncology, she teaches and mentors students who come through the center as part of the Roswell Park graduate program.

She is the granddaughter of Irish immigrants who came to Buffalo in 1950 via passage on the RMS Queen Mary. Dr. Kokolus credits her family for stressing the values of loyalty and working hard, an example she says has contributed to her success.

“Not only is Dr. Kokolus driven in the lab, but she also takes time to educate future cancer researchers with great thoughtfulness and dedication,” says Elizabeth Repasky, PhD, the Dr. William Huebsch Professor in Immunology and Vice Chair of Immunology at Roswell Park. “We are thrilled to see our friend and colleague recognized for her many accomplishments.”

Dr. Kokolus earned her PhD through the Roswell Park graduate program and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Penn State College of Medicine.
