UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Is Here for the WNY Community in this Time of Crisis

Urgent orthopaedic care, telemedicine available in Amherst and Orchard Park

BUFFALO, NY – UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine has always had a commitment to improving the lives of the members of our community. This is done through compassion, collaboration, innovation and kindness.

With the continually evolving COVID-19 crisis happening in Western New York and all around the world, UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine is dedicated to taking measures to ensure that the lives of patients and employees are protected. This is being done while still continuing to deliver the best care that can possibly be provided to the community.

The precautions that UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine has taken are the maximum measures that could have been implemented. Some examples include screening patients and staff members, providing staff members with protective gear, aggressive social distancing and updates to the visitor policy.

“Now more than ever we are the go-to place for WNY’s orthopaedic needs. We are providing the same level of care to our patients while taking advanced safety measures to help stop the spread of COVID-19 to our patients and staff, up to and including video office visits,” said Dr. Leslie Bisson, president of UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, sports medicine physician, June A. And Eugene R. Mindell, M.D. Professor and Chair of Orthopedic Surgery, University at Buffalo.

While social distancing is being followed, members of our community can still sustain any type of injury while playing outside, walking around the house, doing essential grocery shopping or going for a run. Community members should not have to wait to receive care for their injury until the COVID-19 crisis is over with. The same goes for anyone with arthritis, osteoporosis or other ongoing orthopaedic conditions. UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine believes that people shouldn’t have to be social distancing while in pain.

“Even though elective surgeries are on hold, over 85% of our treatments are non-operative, so we can still evaluate a patient’s problem, decrease their pain and improve their function, so that they aren’t suffering during the pandemic,” said Bisson.

UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine has also implemented telemedicine as an option for patients to have visits with their provider without coming into the office. A patient can also have a telemedicine visit with a physical therapist to keep up with their physical therapy routine at home or to learn exercises that can help alleviate pain until they feel comfortable coming into the office again. Telemedicine visits are covered by the majority of insurances.

UB OrthoCare is another option for a patient to visit a provider at UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine if a sprain, strain, break, concussion or any other urgent orthopaedic problem is sustained. This has always been a way to avoid going to the emergency room, but now more than ever, UB OrthoCare needs to be people’s first choice when an injury is sustained for their own safety.

UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine is asking that patients call 716.204.3200 to schedule an appointment or ahead of walking into the UB OrthoCare clinic, so that they can properly be screened prior to entering the office. Patients are being seen at the Amherst Health Center location in Amherst and BrookBridge in Orchard Park.
