Newsweek recognizes cancer center among the world’s top hospitals for oncology

  • List highlights hospitals worldwide in 12 medical fields
  • Roswell Park is the only WNY hospital named
  • Ranking built on survey and recommendations from professionals

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center has been named to Newsweek’s list of World’s Best Specialized Hospitals. The list highlights the leading hospitals worldwide in 12 medical fields. Roswell Park is included in the top hospitals for oncology. It is the only Western New York hospital to appear on the list.

This ranking is built on a worldwide online survey conducted from May to July 2025 using recommendations from medical professionals, as well as accreditation data and certifications.

Roswell Park has been recognized by Newsweek as a top oncology hospital in the world

Roswell Park holds many other distinctions and recognitions. Among them:

  • Roswell Park received an Exceptional rating from the National Cancer Institute — the highest possible designation, held by only a handful of cancer centers. No cancer center has held NCI designation longer than Roswell Park, which is one of the model programs on which the Cancer Centers program was based.
  • In 2025, nurses from teams across Roswell Park earned the prestigious Magnet Recognition for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Roswell Park is among only 10% of hospitals that have ever achieved that recognition.
  • Also in 2025, Roswell Park opened 14 new state-of-the-art clean rooms as part of the new GMP Engineering and Cell Manufacturing (GEM) Facility. The new clean rooms, paired with the six pre-existing clean rooms, position Roswell Park as a global leader in the field of cell and gene therapy.
  • In November, Roswell Park announced the accreditation of its rectal cancer program by the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC). This distinction signifies that Roswell Park meets the highest national standards in the surgical care of people with rectal cancer and is recognized as an American College of Surgeons (ACS) Surgical Quality Partner. Roswell Park is also accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers.
