Windsong Radiology’s latest investment in a 64-slice PET/CT scanner represents the latest generation of state-of-the art technology and precision. The new scanner’s ability to detect the smallest lesion enables radiologists to better understand the progression of disease in patients. Not only does the PET/CT scanner provide greater detection capability, but it also allows for greater comfort, even accommodating patients who weigh up to 500 pounds. Also, since the bed of the scanner is in continuous motion, it often results in shorter patient exams.

Windsong radiologist and PET/CT scan liaison, Dr. Stuart Rubin, says, “The improved spatial resolution provided by the technology translates into sharper images and greater accuracy, which makes it possible for physicians to personalize each patient’s treatment plan.” He explains that this is because the digital system provides the purest signal and best resolution to detect the smallest lesions.

Artificial intelligence, an important part of the scanner’s technology, has become more crucial for accuracy. Additionally, PET/CT has vastly improved the practice of medicine and imaging technology when it comes to personalized treatment. The ability to stage disease more accurately helps to better define treatment strategies for individuals battling disease.

Windsong Radiology’s diagnostic imaging capabilities, include mammography, MRI/CT and other imaging modalities, as well as breast surgery, interventional and vascular services, vein care, and genetic counseling. Windsong was the first breast care program in the region to achieve accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. Windsong also operates Windsong Mobile Mammo, providing on-site screenings across the eight counties of Western New York.
