3 Things Making Your Sleep Apnea Worse
Treatments Locally Are Available at Atlas Orofacial Pain and Apnea Group!
by Dr. Jeffrey Goldberg, DDS
Suffering from sleep apnea can affect all areas of life. Patients we see who stick to their treatment plans tell us they are thankful and that their lives have improved. Certain habits can worsen sleep apnea. If you have any of these habits, changing your behavior can make a big difference in how you feel.
Screen Time Right Before Bed
Engaging with electronics such as phones, tablets, or TVs close to bedtime can disrupt your sleep. Although screen time might seem relaxing, it actually has the opposite effect by stimulating your brain. To calm your mind and body for better sleep, try turning off electronics at least thirty minutes before you plan to go to sleep.
Eating Close to Bedtime
With busy schedules involving work, sports, and family activities, it can be challenging to have an early dinner. However, eating a meal too close to bedtime can hinder proper digestion, leaving you feeling overly full and uncomfortable, which can make it hard to fall asleep.
Overconsumption of Alcohol
If you have sleep apnea, be mindful of how much and when you drink. Alcohol is best enjoyed in moderation. Drinking alcohol late at night can also disrupt your sleep.
