Celebrating Black History in February

During February, Western New Yorkers can explore local Black history and culture through events at the Buffalo African American Museum, exhibits at the Buffalo History Museum, the Burchfield Penney Art Center, and historical sites like the Nash House Museum, which often focus on themes like science, art, and community heritage, with events generally running throughout February.

Key locations that often feature specific programming include:

  • Buffalo African American Museum: A central hub, often organizing a “Together as One” initiative with various partners for events and exhibits highlighting Black achievements.

Other celebrations include:

  • Black History Month Social, Wednesday, February 11, 2026, 3:00–5:00 p.m. at UB North Campus Student Union.
  • Black History Month Celebration at the University at Buffalo Student Union on Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 5:00–7:30 p.m.
  • Black-Owned Business Saturdays at Broadway Market, Every Saturday in February, participating Black-owned vendors sell handcrafted goods, food, and more — part of Buffalo’s Black History Month support for community entrepreneurship.
  • “Roots and Blooms” Exhibit at Botanical Gardens, celebrating Black horticulturalists and botanists through interpretive displays.
