The holidays can be a difficult time of year for many people, especially those who have lost loved ones or who find themselves alone. Holiday depression is a real and common problem, but there are things you can do to cope.
Acknowledge your feelings. It’s important to allow yourself to feel your grief and sadness. Don’t try to bottle up your emotions or pretend that you’re not hurting.
Talk to someone you trust. Talking about your feelings can help you to process them and cope with your grief. Talk to a friend, family member, therapist, or anyone else who you feel comfortable talking to.
Take care of yourself. Make sure you’re getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet, and exercising regularly. These things can help to improve your mood and overall well-being.
Set realistic expectations. Don’t try to do too much or be too perfect. It’s okay to say no to requests for help.
Take breaks. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a break from the holiday festivities. Go for a walk, read a book, or take a nap.
Do things you enjoy. Make time for activities that you find relaxing and enjoyable. This could be anything from reading, to spending time with loved ones, to listening to music.
