Paving the way for continued growth of Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Department of Dermatology, Gyorgy Paragh, MD, PhD, has been promoted to head the department, and has been named the Lawrence P. & Joan Castellani Family Chair in Dermatology.

Described by his patients as kind, gentle and thorough, Dr. Paragh will continue with his clinical and surgical roles while also establishing new dermatology subspecialty clinics. His leadership as a researcher has helped to attract major federal grants supporting the team’s work to better prevent and treat many skin cancers through state-of-the-art genomics tools. Dr. Paragh will also continue to collaborate with fellow Roswell Park researchers, physicians and support staff on initiatives involving training, education and community partnerships.

“Skin cancer remains the most common cancer in men and women in the United States, underscoring the importance of leaders who have distinguished themselves through both research and clinical care,” says Candace S. Johnson, PhD, President and CEO and M&T Bank Presidential Chair in Leadership at Roswell Park. “Dr. Paragh has an impressive record of achievement in both areas, and will lead the program with energy and insight.”

Dr. Paragh holds a medical degree from the University of Debrecen Medical and Health Science Center in Debrecen, Hungary and a doctoral degree from Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary. He completed his residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Dr. Paragh took part in a Roswell Park webinar for first responders late last year, informing local and statewide police, fire and EMT personnel about cancer risks, screening and skin health.
