Buffalo, NY, September, 25, 2023 – Our 450th wish was granted to Kaye H. who resides at Elderwood Assisting Living of Hamburg. Kaye will be celebrating her birthday in early October. Her wish was to spend the day at the Buffalo Zoo seeing ALL of the animals. Our wish granting volunteer Courtney arranged for a wonderful adventure filled with lots of special surprises.

September 18th was the perfect WNY day – warm with a light breeze and plenty of sunshine. Kaye’s favorite animal she saw the whole day was the chinchilla she got to meet – Diego. She enjoyed hearing about each animal and learning facts from our docent, Nancy. Kaye is an “animal person” and grew up around horses, so this was a treat! She was able to watch the gorillas be fed their lunch and Luna, the polar bear, swim some laps in her pool! The silly river otter also put on a show for Kaye, playing with a pinecone.

Kaye enjoyed lunch at the Zoo and ended the day with a shopping spree where she took home a stuffed tiger, puzzles, snow globe and more.

Denise G. from Elderwood Assisted Living at Hamburg submitted the application for Kaye’s wish. Denise wrote to us afterwards: “I didn’t have a chance to email you yesterday, but I wanted to tell you how much fun Kaye had at the zoo. Her eyes were actually sparkling when she got back, she was so happy. Thank you and the volunteers for all you do.
