Celebration of Hope and Peloton Friday with Ride Day on Saturday at a new location on the UB North campus

BUFFALO, NY – Ride for Roswell is filled with fantastic visuals and compelling stories of courage and hope as more than 7,500 riders, volunteers and supporters join in the fight against cancer today, June 23, and tomorrow, June 24.

The 2023 Ride Weekend begins Friday with the Celebration of Hope, a community event to honor cancer survivors and all the heroes who are fighting for cures. On Saturday, riders will embark on routes ranging from 5 to 100 miles from a new location on the University at Buffalo North Campus.

Since the first Ride in 1996, Ride for Roswell has raised more than $68 million for cancer research and patient-care programs at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center with more than 125,000 riders and 25,000 volunteers.

Here is an overview of what to expect this weekend:

TONIGHT: Friday, June 23: Celebration of Hope at UB

The Celebration of Hope is a moving event designed to honor the collective spirit of Roswell Park as the heart of Western New York’s fight against cancer. The event will kick off Ride Weekend and offer the entire Western New York community an opportunity to come together in a rally against cancer, celebrating the survivors, patients and Roswell Park heroes. The evening will feature family-friendly activities in a festival-style atmosphere offering entertainment, the chance to learn more about the cutting-edge research taking place at Roswell Park and an inspirational and emotional stage program. The program will feature the arrival of the Peloton, an Olympics-style procession of cancer advocates, researchers and cancer survivors and the lighting of the Ceremonial Torch. The Celebration of Hope is free and open to everyone.

When: TONIGHT, Friday, June 23

Event activities from 4 to 8:30 p.m.
Formal program begins at 6:45 p.m.

Torch Lighting at 7:30 p.m.

TOMORROW: Saturday, June 24: Ride Day at UB

More than 7,000 riders and volunteers who have each been touched in some way by cancer will participate in the Ride. Riders will depart at start times every 15 minutes from 6 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on routes from five to 100 miles. 725 riders have identified themselves as a cancer patient or survivor and thousands of others are riding in honor or memory of someone in their life that has been touched by cancer.

When: TOMORROW, Saturday, June 24. Routes will depart every 20 minutes beginning at 6 a.m. until 10 a.m.

Where: University at Buffalo, North Campus

Who: Thousands of riders, patients, survivors and volunteers will ride at UB. Candace Johnson, PhD, Roswell Park President & CEO, will be available at UB for interviews from 7 – 8 a.m.
