Life-Affirming Careers in Helping Professions
By Cherie Messore
‘Do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life’ is more than a saying; it’s a call to action for those in the helping professions.
“At Spectrum Health and Human Services, our people are the heart of everything we do,” says Cindy Voelker, President and CEO. “Every day, our team makes a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals in the communities we serve.”
Spectrum Health serves individuals with behavioral health diagnoses. Voelker says, “Over time, our services have expanded, and with that growth comes the need for a more robust workforce.” A good example is Spectrum Health’s C.A.R.E.S. team, the 24/7 emergency services team that responds to children, youth, and families in crisis. “These clinicians are our ‘first responders,’ says Voelker. “Whether by phone or in person, they de-escalate crisis situations and help individuals find treatment.”
The support team members at Spectrum Health’s Patient Access Care Center are the first point of contact for anyone reaching out to the agency. Voelker says, “These team members have a special blend of efficiency and compassion: they offer the first flicker of hope an individual feels when they call for information or an appointment.”
Samantha Peters joined Spectrum Health as an intern. She says, “As a clinician, you can change lives, strengthen communities, and grow in ways you may never have imagined. From starting as an intern to now serving as Vice President of Clinical Operations, the opportunities for growth, leadership, and meaningful impact are endless.” Spectrum Health is always seeking individuals to join this dynamic team. Voelker adds, “Join us and become part of a mission-driven organization that values collaboration, innovation, professional growth, and excellence in care.”
