Hospital has been continuously recognized by healthcare quality program for more than 90 years

  • Program lauds providers of multidisciplinary, patient-centered cancer care
  • Cancer center has maintained accreditation since 1931

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Commission on Cancer (CoC), a quality program of the American College of Surgeons, has fully reaccredited Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center for three years. The Commission on Cancer gives recognition to cancer centers that provide multidisciplinary, patient-centered cancer care. Roswell Park is one of the longest-standing CoC programs, having maintained accreditation from the organization continuously since 1931.

To retain this prestigious status, Roswell Park underwent a site visit by CoC reviewers to confirm the program’s compliance with accreditation standards related to cancer care. The accreditations also factor in outcomes data reported to the National Cancer Database.
“Our team at Roswell Park are deeply committed to defining best practices that improve care for cancer patients, and we are proud to see the CoC continue to recognize our efforts,” says Stephen Edge, MD, FACS, FASCO, Vice President for System Quality and Outcomes at Roswell Park.

The accreditation underscores Roswell Park’s dedication to multidisciplinary cancer care for patients with a complex group of diseases best treated through consultation among surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, diagnostic radiologists, pathologists and additional health care professionals who specialize in personalized care tailored to each individual cancer patient.

The Commission on Cancer is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for patients with cancer by setting and raising standards. For more information, see www.facs.org/quality-programs/cancer-programs/commission-on-cancer.
